You always hope that when a famous and very successful musician dies that there won't be any drama with the children. However this isn't always the case when there are big dollars and many parties involved. The passing of B.B. King has left a situation that seems to get messier by the day as his 15 kids and manager are fighting for control over his assets. Two of his daughters, Patty Elizabeth King and Karen Williams have accused B.B's long-time business manager LaVerne Toney, who had power of attorney and control of the blues legend's finances and medical care, of poisoning King. Now one of his son's Willie is disputing his sister's claims that Toney poisoned the "Lucille" singer.
"There are always - I don't want to call them this, but - there's always a rotten apple in the barrel," King's son Willie said in an interview with The Guardian. "And sometimes you can take hurt, and turn it into something that it should not be. And I think out of the anger of losing their dad, they went to the extreme."
"I pray that the public don't really accept them as an angry person like that, because being my sisters, they are not like that," Willie reasoned. "But sometimes you just don't know how to express yourself. And you jump out at the nearest person. And they attacked the wrong person."
He is not the only one who disputes these accusations. Charles Sawyer, the official biographer for B.B. King, who was able to get very close to the singer, songwriter, guitarist, said "I'm absolutely sure it's absolutely false. LaVerne Toney had B.B. King's power of attorney because he trusted her as much as he could trust any human being."
This may be a move to oust Toney from the picture financially, it will leave the estate in turmoil for quite some time. Maybe it is best King isn't here to see this.
