Muse Reveals "The Handlers" off of 'Drones' Ahead of June 9 Release [LISTEN]

With all the excitement surrounding Muse's new LP, Drones, the trio has unveiled song after song ahead of the political album's June 9. Following the most recent drop of "Reapers," the band has released their newest track, "The Handler."

"Reapers," some of the band's heaviest material, hit the public with a fierce lyric video. Front man, Matt Bellamy, showcases the grittiness of his voice while informing listeners of government deception, reformist intelligence agencies and remote-controlled death traps. The supplementary clip portrays a man running from a drone as well as a cherry-lipped woman with her finger approaching a trigger.

The fifth track to be featured off the LP, "The Handler," can be found on Spotify and is comparable in sound to "Reapers" with its verbose drumming and speedy guitar. Bellamy voices his token melodramatic tendencies as he wails about resisting regulation of higher powers, singing in falsetto, "I must stand free from your grip, you will never own me."

Along with "Psycho" and "Mercy," "Reapers" and "The Handler" are among numerous cuts from Drones, all of which serve as a vital turning point in the album's chronicle. "They're about being overcome by these oppressive forces," Bellamy told Rolling Stone. "Midway through 'The Handler,' in the darkest places, the protagonist, or me, since I'm singing in the first person, feels this desire to actually feel something. They decide, 'I don't want to be used by others. I don't want to be controlled. I don't want to be a cold, non-feeling person. I want to actually feel something.' The desire to fight against the oppressors sinks in."

Bellamy admits that the follow up LP to 2012's The 2nd Law is the best album he, Christopher Wolstenholme and Dominic Howard have crafted. "That's not something I've been able to say for a while."

The front man continued to describe the June 9 release to NME as "a move towards being more human, rather than technology-based", and admitted that it "was quite difficult for me to make at certain points. My personal life went through a bit of a shift", referring to his recent departure from actress Kate Hudson.

Bellamy also detailed his visit to the White House by conversing with former Secretary of State Colin Powell, stating their conversation about conspiracy theories.
