G.R.L. Breaks Up Nine Months After Simone Battle's Death

Less than a year after the tragic death of Simone Battle, girl group G.R.L. is calling it a day. Today (June 2), Kemosabe Records and RCA Records announced that the "Ugly Heart" quartet are calling it a day.

In a statement to Billboard, G.R.L. announced the unfortunate news.

"Nearly 9 months following the tragic death of band member Simone Battle, girl group G.R.L. announces today that they are disbanding," Kemosabe Records, RCA Records, managers Larry Rudolph and Robin Antin said in a statement to Billboard. "We wish them continued success in each of their next creative endeavors."

The disbandment of G.R.L. comes with little explanation. Initially, the band's surviving members Paula Van Oppen, Natasha Slayton, Lauren Bennett and Emmalyn Estrada said they never thought of quitting G.R.L. following Battle's suicide.

"There was never a question that we weren't going to break up," Bennett told Billboard in January. "We didn't know what was going to happen -- we really didn't even think about it. We just got back together and just continued to do what we're doing today, to stay close, and that's just how it is. That's where we are now."

Lately, however, Bennett has been changing her tune, posting cryptic and sad tweets.

And now G.R.L. has called it quits. Listen to their Battle tribute track "Lighthouse" below:
