Preceding Game 2 of the NBA Finals between the Golden State Warriors and the Cleveland Cavaliers, Carlos Santana and his wife, Cindy Blackman Santana, will take the stage at Oracle Arena in Oakland to perform the National Anthem.
Heading back to his Bay Area hometown, the Latin-rock legend will be assisted by his wife on the drums for the opening act. Jazz and rock drummer Blackman Santana is well-known for her collaboration and recording history with artist Lenny Kravitz.
Having roots in San Fransisco, the global music icon made a name for himself in the Bay Area, eventually selling over 100 million records and releasing hits like "Maria, Maria," "Smooth," and "Oye Como Va," notes the Associated Press. Santana is no stranger to performing "The Star Spangled Banner" alongside his family members--in 2014 at Game 4 of the World Series, he enlisted his son, Salvador, to play keys in a performance for the San Francisco Giants.
The ten-time Grammy award-winner recently chose to be interviewed by Harry Belafonte on an episode of American Public Television series Speakeasy, notes Rolling Stone. "I'm not Latino, or Spanish; what I am is a child of light. I want this book for people to understand that you don't have to be the Dalai Lama, or the Pope, or Mother Teresa, or Jesus Christ to create blessings and miracles. Keep repeating, 'I am that I am; I am the light," Santana explained about the intentions for his book "I Am a Reflection of Your Light."
The Warriors currently lead the Caveliers in the series 1-0--catch the performance and Game 2 of the NBA Finals on ABC beginning at 8 p.m. tonight.
