Festivals Drop Ten Walls After Homophobic Comments Appear Online

A refrain often heard in rap battles is one man telling another that they will end the other's career. They go about doing this in various ways, by taking apart their demeanor, physical appearance or actual talent. But it is a lot easier when an artist does that for himself or herself. There isn't an exact equivalent in the electronic music world, but Lithuanian producer, DJ Ten Walls, born Marijus Adomaitis, just made a very strong attempt to end his own career after posting rather disgusting homophobic comments on his personal Facebook page. The resulting outcry has caused Ten Walls to be dropped from festival bills and cancel all upcoming shows.

Originally spotted by Gay Star News, the now deleted post spoke about "a different breed" when talking about gays.

"I remember producing music for one Lithuanian musician, who tried to wash my brain that I don't need to be so conservative and intolerant about them. When I asked him 'what would you do if you realized that your 16-year-old son's browny (anus) is ripped by his boyfriend?' Well he was silent."

It continued: "One of my first gigs in Ireland, on my way to [my] hotel I saw a church with a fence decorated with hundreds of baby shoes. Naturally I wondered why? Unfortunately a priest's lie for many years was uncovered when children were massively raped. Unfortunately the people of other breed continue to do it and everyone knows it but does nothing."

Thankfully, electronic music has rallied to remove Ten Walls from the current discussion of relevant DJs as we head into the summer festival season. Six festivals including Creamfields, Pitch, Pukkelpop and more all quickly removed him from their lineups. As a result all upcoming shows have been canceled for the time being.

Creamfields released a statement, saying, "Whilst we respect freedom of speech, we find his defamatory and prejudiced comments about the gay community extremely offensive and feel that this is not in line with the spirit of Creamfields or an opinion that we support."

Other festivals released similar statements.

It appears Ten Wall's extreme ignorance needs a little history lesson. The music, which has allowed him to tour the world and make a living, house music, was named after a club in Chicago named The Warehouse, which was frequented by primarily gay Latino and African Americans.

He released a half-assed apology on Facebook saying the comments were "completely out of character." It does not appear anybody is buying his story.

Last week I wrote a Facebook post that was wrong and completely out of character and the result was a badly written post...
