English punk icon Frank Carter is again without a band after the announcement of an "indefinite hiatus" for Pure Love on Friday. Carter was the vocalist for Gallows up until 2011, when he left the band for creative differences.
"After what can only be described as a 'hard year' Jim and I have decided to hit the brakes and place Pure Love into the phantom zone," Carter said on Twitter via the group's account. "It's not an easy decision, and we both hate the term 'indefinite hiatus' but that's exactly where we are at."
Pure Love released only one album, 2013's Anthems, during its short existence. Carter and the band's other member, former The Hope Conspiracy guitarist Jim Carroll, had hoped to break away somewhat from their previously established hardcore identities. Love still kept the raw sensations of its members' previous groups, but shifted the music in a more "alternative" genre direction.
No hints were given as to what made 2013 such a "hard year," but the band seems to have enough in the can to do a series of farewell shows during May. As of Monday morning, specifics behind those gigs hadn't been released on the group's website, but Carter stated on Twitter that fans would be able to buy a "7 records featuring three new tracks from the band, which would only be available on the tour.
There's no word on what Carter or Carroll will do next, but Grey Britain fans shouldn't get excited for the former to rejoin Gallows: Carter's brother Stephen has since left the band as well, to focus on his side project Ghost Riders in The Sky.
