Monica Lewis, a vocalist for the Benny Goodman Orchestra and most famous for providing the original voice for Miss Chiquita Banana, has died at the age of 93.
Lewis got her start in radio at the age of 17 and eventually became more prominent in music thanks to her work with Goodman, appearing on programs such as Beat The Band. Although many had forgotten her role within music as a result of her Chiquita popularity, she was at one point referred to as "America's Singing Sweetheart" at her peak as a musician.
She booked her biggest gig during 1947 when she took the role as Miss Chiquita Banana in the company's first television commercial.
Her husband, film producer Jennings Lang, died during 1996.
