It's been decades since Darlene Love has released an album of new material, but soon a whole new generation will be introduced to the legendary '60s pop star. Yesterday (June 18), the "Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)" singer announced her first new studio album in nearly 20 years, Introducing Darlene Love.
Love's first full-length LP since 1998 will be due out in the autumn, Entertainment Weekly reports. Full details about the album, including an exact release date, album artwork and tracklisting, are forthcoming. However, it is confirmed that the LP will be released via Steve Van Zandt's label, Wicked Cool in collaboration with Columbia Records.
The album is also confirmed to have big name songwriters on board, including Van Zandt, Elvis Costello, Bruce Springsteen, Jim Webb, Linda Perry, Joan Jett and more.
"Darlene's legendary status is well deserved but I felt the time was long overdue to show a younger generation WHY she has earned that reputation," Van Zandt said in a statement. "Partnering with Columbia Records is a dream come true because now I know the world will hear her."
Love is best known these days for her smash holiday single "Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)" and her role in the critically acclaimed documentary Six Feet from Stardom. But, the 73-year-old legend was a major pop player in the '60s, with her No. 1 hit "He's a Rebel."
