While it may not be a surprise, world-renowned vocalist Anna Netrebko has decided to cancel a performance of Iolanta due to a throat infection that has rendered the revered opera singer unable to sing.
According to Luzerner Zeitung, the Russian soprano has been suffering from an acute infection in her throat and has been advised, medically, not to sing until June 25. As the Lucerne Symphony Orchestra writes, Netrebko was very sad about the cancellation.
Per Norman Lebrecht:
"[Anna Netrebko] has cancelled a concert performance of Tchaikovsky's Iolanta in Lucerne and, though this has not yet been announced, seems likely to miss further dates in Copenhagen, Monte Carlo and London (Royal Albert Hall)."
However, the opera singer has been the center of debate after her recent contribution to an opera company in Donetsk. Since, there has been a lot of controversy surrounding the artist.
