Janet Jackson 'No Sleeep' Review: First New Single in Seven Years is Sensual, Strong Return [LISTEN]

It's been seven years since the world has heard new music from Janet Jackson. After her 2008 album Discipline failed to really resonate with listeners, it seemed as though the legendary "All for You" singer was done. But now, after a month's worth of teasers and hints, Ms. Jackson's new single "No Sleeep" has finally arrived, and it's just the sort of smooth R&B jam that her fans have been hungry for.

With her signature sultry, soft crooning voice, Jackson sings to her lover about how "we ain't gonna get no sleep." And you can only imagine why with a song this smooth. Backed by dripping rain and small crashes of thunder, "No Sleeep" easily channels those sexy, long days (and nights) in bed after being reunited with your lover.

"You missing me / I'm missing you / When we finally meet, we ain't gonna get no sleep," Jackson sings at the top of the song, with her voice so soft and sensual that fans can't help but be reminded why she's the OG. Eventually, she reaches into a stronger, louder and higher register, resonating right along with the song's emotional high.

With a song so rooted in her R&B stylings, it doesn't quite feel like Jackson has been gone for so long. The sensuality, sexy lyrics and that signature voice were all much missed in the world, and "No Sleeep" feels just like the kin d of slow burning song that could bring Jackson back onto the radio in the new decade.
