The ongoing saga of Brooklyn emcee Bobby Shmurda continues as his trial has been set for October 5, according to reports from HipHopDX. The "Hot N*gga" rapper is being held along with fellow emcee Rowdy Rebel and four other accused for an 101-count indictment. Shmurda himself stood before a Manhattan Supreme Court judge on June 25.
Shmurda was arrested during December of 2014, accused of leading a Brooklyn-based chapter of the Crips gang, identified as GS9. He was charged with conspiracy to commit murder, multiple counts of illegal weapon possessions, as well as reckless endangerment. He's since pled innocent to all charges. Not helping his cause is that his record label is also named "GS9" and he has claimed in multiple interviews, prior to being arrested, that his lyrics are biographical in nature. Shmurda has been held on $2 million bail since December.
Things haven't gotten any better for the emcee since he landed inside. Shmurda was "arrested" again within Rikers Island when guards at the prison caught him attempting to acquire a "sharpened metal object." How those charges will affect the current allegations against him are unknown, however it appears that now Shmurda will see another judge in the Bronx Criminal Court on June 26 as a result.
Other reports indicate that the district attorney is offering a plea deal for eight years behind bars with five years of probation, granted that Shmurda acknowledges criminal possession of a weapon. Whether that's a good deal or bad deal remains to be seen...and discussed by the emcee and his legal team.
