Filling in for the Foo Fighters after Dave Grohl took a tumble off the stage in Gothemburg, Florence + the Machine commanded the stage at Glastonbury Festival 2015 — but not without eternally thanking the band whose slot they slipped into during the last minute.
Florence stepped up to the headlining position with an array of songs spanning the band's discography, including one important tribute cover of "Times Like These" by the Foo Fighters, reports BBC. Welch praised the front man for his overwhelming support upon Florence + the Machine's beginning stages.
"Dave if you're listening, we love you. We all love you," Welch announced.
The headliner set kicked off at 10:15 p.m. with sophomore album Ceremonials hit “What The Water Gave Me,” which was quickly followed by “A Ship To Wreck,” from the band’s 2015 LP How Big, How Blue, How Beautiful. Backed by singers and a harp, Welch drew attention to the stage while running around barefoot — a questionable call to make with the singer’s recent foot injury during Coachella in April.
Out of breath, Florence addressed the audience at the Pyramid Stage with, "Thank you so much. We are Florence + The Machine and we would have really liked to have a choir, but we didn't have time, so we were wondering if you would be our choir. Glastonbury, will you sing with us?" The band launched into an elated version of “Shake it Off” as Welch enlisted the audience to climb on top of each other’s shoulders to “get high with us.” Interacting with the crowd, Welch flocked to a female audience member, taking a floral headband from one fan and singing to another, notes NME.
Wrapping up the show, Welch requested that every member in the audience kiss and hug whoever was standing close to them, before asking them to remove one item of clothing to swing over their heads. Deciding to join in, the front woman became an example for the crowd as she took her own shirt off and twirled it above her head before scurrying off stage.
