Meek Mill released his highly-anticipated Dreams Worth More Than Money on Monday and fans have been pouring over the 14-track effort from the Philadelphia rapper, which includes features from some of hip-hop's biggest names such as Drake, Diddy, Rick Ross, Future, Chris Brown and, of course, his girlfriend, Nicki Minaj. He has been doing a few appearances recently, but now the extensive tour begins and this morning he went on Power 105.1 in New York City to talk with Angie Martinez to talk about his album Dreams Worth More Than Money, his relationship with Minaj and more.
He gives the rundown on the album and describes the process of making music with Minaj in the studio, describing it as "war," which isn't surprising since they both have strong creative personalities and different styles.
The interview is focused around the album, but many of the opening topics of conversations touch on other aspects of his life.
Mill opens up about the abuse he took as an 18-year-old from the police after being arrested for gun possession, which impacted him dramatically.
He gets very candid about how important rap is for him as a person and if he hadn't become a rapper, Mill probably would be in a very different place.
"It's a dream for me to be in any of these positions. If it wasn't for rap, I'd probably be in jail or dead by now."
When speaks about Minaj, he speaks with warmth and a smile on his face, noting that her influence on his life changed him and he is accepting of the fact that she wants things to be public so he is willing to go along with it. He shares that sometimes he wakes up and happily goes back to sleep because she is beside him.
