Annie Clark recently gave a sneak preview of her latest St. Vincent album, when she performed "Rattlesnake," "Regret," and "Every Tear Disappears" during New York Fashion Week. You can now hear eight more tracks not released until now, with NPR's complete album stream.
Speaking to Pitchfork, Clark says, "We live in a postmodern age when it's pretty hard to come up with anything new, especially on a fundamental level." Clark has learned to not succumb to this pressure when making her music.
"There's always someone playing faster, louder, more distorted. So you can't really go anywhere except into yourself," she says. "All that's left is to figure out who you are-because that's what's going be believable to somebody else."
St. Vincent is currently playing Europe part of the Digital Witness Tour, and hits the States February 26th at Terminal 5 in New York City. She stays stateside until April 12th, and returns abroad from spring until summer.
Speaking of tour, the 31-year-old says, "It takes a certain amount of athleticism to go on tour, and when you're young, you want to thrash around to prove that you're working hard. But people in their prime just make everything look effortless. Confidence is like leaning back. It becomes a grand sleight of hand."
The St. Vincent album officially comes out February 24th in the U.K. and the 25th in the U.S.
