After much anticipation, Lana Del Rey is back to deliver her signature dreamy pop sound. She teased snippets of the single earlier in June, but now her song "Honeymoon" is finally out.
The lyric video for the new song opens up with a '70s-style home video of the "Summertime Sadness" singer relaxing sleeping peacefully in a flowery meadow, with the song's eerie opening piano chords playing in the background. The lyrics are then shown on a pink floral background. Continuing with Lana Del Rey's usual themes of scorned love, "Honeymoon" tells the tale of a complicated romance. In the second verse, she sings, "We both know the history of violence that surrounds you/But I'm not scared, there's nothing to lose now that I've found you/We could cruise the news — Pico Poulevard in your little used bullet car if we chose/Mr. Born to Lose." In the chorus, she sweetly sings "our honeymoon" repeatedly.
It has been just over a year since her last album Ultraviolence, which TIME named one of the top ten best albums of 2014. Del Rey is set to release her next album, also titled Honeymoon, in the fall of this year. She confirmed her upcoming album with Billboard and said that this album would be different from her previous work. She stated, "It's very different from the last one and similar to the first two, Born to Die and Paradise. I finished my last one [Ultraviolence] in March and released it in June and I had a follow-up idea. It's growing into something I really like. I'm kind of enjoying sinking into this more noirish feel for this one. It's been good." She also confirmed that she was planning on featuring a cover of Nina Simone's "Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood," saying "I'm having fun with my interpretation ... I'm so so much a fan."
