The office is a little less bearable this morning. Staff writer Caitlin "Fake Tales of San Francisco" Carter is celebrating both the Bonnaroo lineup and the accomplishments of her favorite band, the Arctic Monkeys, at the BRITs yesterday. This article is about the latter.
The Brits are an awards show aimed at honoring the best in British music from the previous year, as well as some international flavors adored by British listeners. The Arctic Monkeys seemingly came away as the winners, taking home two prizes: Best British Group and Best British Album (for their 2013 offering AM).
Vocalist Alex Turner used the resulting speech to give a passionate, if somewhat familiar sounding tribute to rock 'n' roll. The text of his elegy is below.
"Thank you. That rock & roll, eh? That rock & roll, it just won't go away. It might hibernate from time to time and sink back into the swamp. I think the cyclical nature of the universe in which it exists demands it adheres to some of its rules. But it's always waiting there, just around the corner, ready to make its way back through the sludge and smash through the glass ceiling, looking better than ever. Yeah, that rock & roll, it seems like it's fading away sometimes, but it will never die. And there's nothing you can do about it. Thank you very much for this. I do truly appreciate it. Don't take that the wrong way and invoice me for the microphone if you need to (he dropped the mic)."

It was the Arctic Monkeys third time winning the BRIT for best album, and its fourth for best group.
One Direction was the other big winner for the night, taking home two awards: Best Video for "Best Song Ever" and the prize for Global Success. David Bowie and Ellie Goulding didn't do too badly, taking home the respective trophies for British Male Solo Artist and British Female Solo Artist, respectively.
