Hold on to your teddy bears and rainbow necklaces, Miley Cyrus is coming back to the MTV VMAs. Ahead of this year's nominations, yesterday (July 20), the network and Bangerz singer announced that Cyrus will be returning to the VMAs for the third year in a row... this time as host.
Cyrus made the announcement in her typical outrageous style on Twitter. Wearing a neon green alien body suit, a mysterious figure held up a sign that read, "MTV won't let me perform," before the figure was revealed to be Cyrus with a sign, "So I'm hosting this year's VMAs."
The sign, of course, eludes to Cyrus' infamous 2013 VMAs performance. Performing her new single "We Can't Stop," Cyrus gyrated on stage, eventually twerking right on "Blurred Lines" singer Robin Thicke. The "twerk seen 'round the world" garnered plenty of controversy for Cyrus, who lapped up all the attention during her Bangerz era.
The next year, a more subdued Cyrus simply attended the VMAs with a homeless teen guest as she launched her Happy Hippie Foundation. When she won Video of the Year for "Wrecking Ball," she sent the teen Jesse Helt to accept the trophy on her behalf as she watched on with tears in her eyes.
The Video of the Year win is the sole time Cyrus has taken home a VMA, though she has been nominated a total of eight times.
This year, Cyrus is sure to have plenty of surprises in store when she hosts the VMAs on Aug. 30. The nominations will be announced later this morning.
