Philly rocker Kurt Vile recently unveiled the title to his follow up to Wakin on a Pretty Daze. Set to be his sixth studio album to date, b'lieve i'm goin down..., will be "dark," says Consequence of Sound, featuring tracks that he says are "a little sad, and a little love." With a release date of Sept. 25 via Matador, Vile's imminent LP will include a track that the lo-fi icon's "favorite songs ever."
Although its release date is a little over two months away, b'lieve I'm goin down... is already receiving rave reviews. Featuring a statement by alt rock legend Kim Gordon (ex-Sonic Youth), Vile's impending release was described by Pitchfork as "a handshake across the country," recorded in varying locales. "The record is all air, weightless, bodiless, but grounded in convincing authenticity, in the best version of singer songwriter upcycling."
It becomes clearer and clearer with each release, that this "boy/man with an old soul in the age of digital everything" (as Gordon puts it) has a knack for crafting albums that resonate with a large (and endlessly growing) audience of listeners. As illustrated by his new single, "Pretty Pimpin," Vile is a master of slick riffs and memorable croonage. With a steady delivery and lyrics that seem to roll effortlessly off the tongue, the debut video for "Pretty Pimpin" breathes to life a new Americana comprised of a self-reflective awareness that is raw and relatable.
It is clear that the City of Brotherly Love's native son will continue to be one of its brightest stars.
