Riot Grrrl legends Bikini Kill recently revealed plans to reissue its seminal 1991 demo Revolution Girl Style Now. Scheduled for a September 22nd release, the revamped version of the band's DIY debut will also include the following unreleased songs according to Rolling Stone: "Just Once," "Playground" and "Ocean."
A limited-edition replica (or should we say a "Rah! Rah! Replica"?) of the original Revolution Girl Style Now cassette tape is also available for diehard fans of the all female outfit through mail order. In addition to cassette, the reissue will be available on vinyl, CD and for digital download.
The forthcoming version of Revolution Girl Style Now, which is already a quintessential album, will be a definite must-have for any fan of Kathleen Hanna and acts like The Julie Ruin, Le Tigre, or Bratmobile. Mixed by Fugazi frontman Guy Picciotto and mastered by John Golden, the reissue of this legendary riot grrrl album coincides with Hanna's plans with her latest band, The Julie Ruin, who recently performed at the Pitchfork Music Festival and will also grace the stage at Burger Records' female-fronted fall fest Burger-A-Go-Go.
Hanna, who is also a widely celebrated activist, feminist, and academic, was honored by the city of Boston earlier this spring during which the city officially declared April 9, 2015 as "Riot Grrrl Day."
With a quick listen to tracks like "Double Dare Ya" or "Suck My Left One" and it is clear why Hanna and her band continue to be revolutionary.
