Flying Lotus Joining Hannibal Burress as House DJ for Comedy Central's 'Why?'

Flying Lotus was one of the first guests to grace the stage on Hannibal Burress' new show Why?, and now it's been revealed that the DJ will serve as the house DJ for the show. The performer reported the news on Twitter this week.

Tune into @hannibalburress new show on Comedy Central it's called "Why?"," he tweeted. "U can catch me there playing new sh*t every Wednesday."

The host himself confirmed the news with a simple "yessir."

So evidently the role of "house DJ" will only require Lotus to be on the program on Wednesdays, which explains how he's going to carry out the job while holding down his other responsibilities. The performer, besides presumably making new music from time to time, has been all over the place in the last few years, curating playlists for curious listeners. Among his recent gigs have been a BBC Radio 1 residency, as well as curating the "FlyLo" radio station for the video game Grand Theft Auto V.

Flying Lotus joins in the recent trend of big-name performers taking over musical responsibilities for talk shows. The most obvious example was when The Roots signed on to be the house band for Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show, and Stephen Colbert announced rising jazz star Jon Batiste as his bandleader for when the comedian takes over The Late Show later this year.

Why? With Hannibal Burress takes a page out of the successful news-mockery theme prevalent on Comedy Central, while also adding sketches and other fare once more popular on the channel, as comedian/host Burress looks into what's trending around the globe.
