Mac DeMarco's mini-LP, Another One, set for an August 7th release date on Captured Tracks, is now available on NPR via stream. Known for surprises, the king of slacker rock is also playing a secret show at Brooklyn's Baby's All Right according to Brooklyn Vegan.
The eight track release features cuts like "No Other Heart," "I've Been Waiting For Her" and "Without Me." The tracks compliment each other, making DeMarco's catchy completion of ballads the perfect combination of pop and chord-driven rock. Filled with sincere lines, romanticism and just enough disenchantment to keep things from feeling cliché, Another One is the well wrought follow up to 2014's Salad Days.
Although its release date is still a few days away, DeMarco's latest has already earned a 7.3 from Pitchfork. Described by Consequence of Sound as an album that explores "desire" and "dives deep into the slack-rocker's emotional insecurities," Another One, much like his prior releases, is critically being recieved as heartfelt and unabashedly earnest.
In addition to captivating riffs and memorable melodies, Another One also serves as an invitation to the jizz jazz artist's home. The mini-LP's final track, "My House By The Water" ends with an invite for listeners to visit his Far Rockaway home for a cup of coffee that includes DeMarco's home address.
Although some might find such an invite strange, DeMarco welcomes it. "The way I rationalize it, to have the address you'll have to listen to the album to the very end," he stated in a recent interview with The Wall Street Journal. "Second, to even consider coming to my house you have to be a kind of a superfan. And thirdly, it's in such a weird part of New York that if they actually get there, they deserve a cup of coffee."
