Nicki Minaj and Taylor Swift Spoke on the Phone After VMAs Twitter Spat

Taylor Swift: Twitter apology

Taylor Swift: VMAs

Taylor Swift: nominations

Before launching in to three cuts of her new album The Pinkprint, Minaj spoke to Good Morning America about the VMAs snub and conversation with Swift.

"First of all, I spoke to Taylor Swift yesterday on the phone. She was super, super sweet and she apologized. She said, look, I didn't understand the big picture of what you were saying, but now I get it. So, we're all good," Minaj explained.

Swift and Minaj seemingly spoke on the phone before the former pop star posted an apology on Twitter. Swift admitted that she misconstrued what Minaj meant when she said that if your video celebrates those with thin figures that you would get a Video of the Year nomination. Minaj also insists that she wasn't calling out Swift specifically but MTV.

"I was just saying - I posted something on my Instagram that showed the stats of other videos that had been nominated previously, and there just seemed to be a little funny business going on," Minaj said before giving wide eyes to the audience, adding implication to what she was saying. "'Anaconda' had such a huge cultural impact and on top of that, we broke the VEVO record. So, this is actually my third time breaking the VEVO record and I do think 'Anaconda' should have been nominated. I do think if I had been one of the 'pop girls,' they would have had many nominations for it."

Minaj then further explained herself, saying that the VMAs should celebrate women of all body types and races.

"I think that we just have to have both images for girls. We can't have only one type of body being glorified in the media, because it makes girls even more insecure than we already are," she said.
