Future's Dirty Sprite 2 was expected to top the Billboard albums charts, but not even the emcee himself could have predicted just how well the album would do: DS2 moved 131,500 actual albums, more than double what Honest sold during 2014. Needless to say, it was the performer's best sales week to date.
The means that last week's no. 1, Tyrese, fell to no. 2 with Black Rose. The R&B vocalist's album performed rather unusually for a second-week effort however: Black Rose sold 42,500 copies, just a 35 percent fall from last week. That might not sound like a good thing, but albums tend to drop much more steeply in their second week. Tyrese didn't debut with a total that would normally peak at no. 1, but with consistency like this, he should be able to rack up more than enough in sales.
He narrowly edged the no. 3 album, another new release: Alan Jackson's Angels and Alcohol. And we mean "narrowly." Although Jackson is officially entered at "42,500," HitsDailyDouble provides estimates for the exact sales figures of the albums in the Top 10. According to those numbers, Tyrese outsold Jackson by a mere 18 albums.
Another new country release comes in right behind Jackson at no. 4, as Jason Isbell had his best sales week ever with Something More Than Free, which sold 41,000 copies. Another performer with a career-best sales week follows at no. 5, as Tame Impala moves 39,500 copies of Currents.
All the new releases mean that Taylor Swift gets bumped out of the Top 5. 1989 has to take no. 6, with 25,500 copies sold. Kidz Bop 29 wasn't actually nearly as resilient as Black Rose in terms of percentage drops going into week 2, but it just didn't have the big numbers to begin with. The compilation sold 21,500 copies this week, taking no. 7.
Meek Mill might be in the top 10 for the last week with Dreams Worth More Than Money, as his previous no. 1 moves just a hundred fewer copies than Kidz Bop, good for no. 8 this week. It's a longer drop to no. 9, where Ed Sheeran and x sold 14,000 copies to take no. 9. The last spot in the Top 10 goes to Sam Hunt, whose Montevallo has been camped at no. 10 for two weeks.
