Paul McCartney Prepares 'Tug of War,' 'Pipes of Peace' Reissues

Due out on October 2, Paul McCartney's 80s endeavours -- Tug of War and Pipes of Peace -- will be reissued as multi-disc sets, offering countless unreleased outtakes and demo tracks. Both LPs boast a number of McCartney staples such as duets "Ebony and Ivory" with Stevie Wonder and "Say Say Say" with Michael Jackson. Hit solo track "Take it Away" can also be found on the reissue alongside the John Lennon tribute, "Here Today."

McCartney's third solo LP, Tug of War, saw its release in 1982 shortly after Wings split up. The two-CD reissue gathers eight unreleased tracks and a remix of the entire critically acclaimed album, including a solo version of "Ebony and Ivory" as well as outtakes "Something That Didn't Happen" and "Stop, You Don't Know Where She Came From."

A one-DVD, three-CD version will feature original music videos and Fly TIA-Behind The Scenes on Take It Away, an 18-minute documentary, notes Rolling Stone. Aside from musical and visual footage, a 64-page scrapbook and 112 essay book are included in the bundle. Limited to just 1,000 copies, the super deluxe set includes five prints of images from Linda McCartney's archive nestled in an acrylic slipcase.

The Pipes of Peace two-CD set includes a bonus disc of nine songs spanning a remix of "Say Say Say" by Spike Stent, previously unreleased "Christian Bop" and outtake tracks, "Simple As That" and "It's Not On." The one-DVD, two-CD set highlights original promo clips for three singles along with unreleased archive footage. Another essay book and a 65-page book detailing the video shoot for "Pipes of Peace" is included.

According to UltimateClassicRock, both albums can be pre-ordered and will be also be available for purchase as two-LP sets on 180-gram vinyl, marking the last segments of the continuing Paul McCartney Archive Collection. The re-release of 1973 McCartney and Wings' Bands on the Run kicked off the collection.

As of late, McCartney, who has spent time on the open road supporting his latest, appropriately titled album, New, was able to induct fellow Beatle Ringo Starr to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and will play a headlining set at Chicago's Lollapalooza this weekend.
