As promised, Kid Cudi drops a new single, "Confused," off his upcoming album Speedin' Bullet to Heaven. "Confused" is the 1st single to be released from his upcoming album, as promised in July.
At the beginning of July, Cudi told us Speedin' Bullet to Heaven was 98% complete and that we'd get the first single before the end of the month. He also promised the album would be his most ambitious project yet, saying, "I've ripped my heart out and carved it into tiny pieces of musical madness."
"Confused" might leave some of Cudi's longtime fans feeling like just that. The new single is something wildly different from the man we can no longer call a rapper. He's abandoned the worlds of hip-hop and R&B for some stripped-down, grunge-y rock 'n' roll.
He ditches the synths and club vibes for electric guitar and tightly wound drums, creating a space conducive for intimate soul bearing. His vocals come out raspy and unfiltered, as he sings about struggling with the track's titular emotion:
"Confused / Confused, truth is what I choose / Heal I never do / Asking who are you? / I don't have one clue / Seems I hate him too / Seems my color's blue / Confused"
Speedin' Bullet to Heaven will be Cudi's fifth album and the first since Satellite Flight: The Journey to Mother Moon released in February 2014.
Unlike his previous LPs, there will be no "electronic sounds" on Speedin' Bullet and Cudi himself will play all guitar and bass . The album's only other collaborator will be producer Plain Pat, who worked on Cudi's first two albums,
Kid Cudi will perform at Lollapalooza tonight (August 1) at 6:45. Attendees can expect a live rendition of the new single.
How do you guys feel about Cudi's new sound?
