That's right: Taylor Swift has officially joined the #FutureHive. Future's DS2 recently debuted at No. 1 (ahead of the long reigning 1989) and the "Trap N*ggas" rapper was elated just to be mentioned in the same sentence as the world's biggest pop star. Future reposted an Instagram that showed DS2 next to 1989, praising the "legendary" "Bad Blood" singer, and soon after, Swift commented on his post, which "made her day," and called herself a "huge fan" of Dirty Sprite 2.
Future regrammed a picture from the account musicnewsfacts, which read, "Future's DS2 and Taylor Swift's 1989 will battle for the #1 spot..." Mind you, Future's DS2 was released on July 17 whereas 1989 was released on October 27 of last year. With the new changes in Nielsen's sales tracking week, now running Friday to Thursday, Future's DS2 entered the Billboard 200 for the week of August 8, debuting at No. 1, a spot ahead of Swift's 1989. For the current week of August 15, DS2 sits at No. 2, behind Jill Scott's Woman, and 1989 moved down to No. 4, behind Lamb of God's VII: Sturm Und Drang.
The Freebandz boss captioned the photo: "Dat girl Swift legendary...to b mentioned wit someone her caliber is a win already." Swift soon caught wave of Future's kind words and commented on his post, saying, "I'm loving your album and this really made my day. I'm such a huge fan of yours."
Of course, Swift has recently began embracing the hip-hop world. She got Kendrick Lamar on the "Bad Blood" remix, and last night, in Seattle, she brought out Fetty Wap to perform "Trap Queen." But we're still having trouble imagining Swift bumping DS2. Her chart-topping album couldn't be further opposite than that of Future. DS2 finds Future coping with depression by way of drug addiction and promoting licentiousness over any form of a mutually-beneficial relationship. We don't want to pigeonhole Swift's listening habits, but perhaps she should keep the codeine-inspired album away from her younger fans. In any case, we'd love to hear her on the "Percocet & Stripper Joint" remix.
Notwithstanding the sincerity of her DS2 praise, Future fans would happily welcome Swift into their ranks...had she not compromised herself last night in Seattle by, after bringing out Fetty Wap, welcoming the Hive's two biggest sworn enemies to the stage: Ciara and her new man, Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson. Hive members, is Swift worthy of your forgiveness? Sound off in the comments.
