Björk and Tyler, The Creator Explain Respective Tour Cancellations

Two performers—Björk and Tyler, The Creator—have cancelled dates/tours in the last week, and both have released statements on their respective touring issues. One is more more obvious and understandable than the other.

We'll start with Tyler...as his cancellation is more tenable to normal human beings such as ourselves. Although the emcee suggested last month that he had been denied entry to Australia because of the controversy surround his act/lyrics, it seems that he made the choice on his own.

"We would much rather come to Australia when it isn't surrounded in controversy," he said. "I love my fans there and hopefully I'll be back soon. Don't do drugs."

Much of that controversy was tied to the Collective Shout group, a women's rights organization that Tyler has sparred with in the past. The rapper has lashed out at the group for its frequent publication of essays detailing why the rapper is the summation of anti-woman music (Google "Collective Shout" and you'll see the site has a whole segment dedicated to him). Despite that conflict, it seems unlikely that the group would be able to derail an entire tour but Tyler may just be avoiding the headache at this point.

So how about Björk? She's always been a curious character...but her reasoning for the cancellation of several festival dates is, uh, interesting. Her team had previously referenced a "scheduling conflict," but the performer has clarified that it's an "internal" time conflict.

Apologize for the wording in the statement:

"Singing this album has been intense and the internal clock of it different to the other ones. it has sort of had to behave in its own little way. both the urgency of the leak and now this sudden closure for reasons beyond my control is characteristic of that. i hope through the years i have earned enough tourkarma points to get your support for this," she wrote. "I have started writing new songs and feel the best most natural pathway to go is to let this beast flow its natural course and start anew."

The good news: Björk is already working on new music. The bad news: The "internal scheduling conflict" means she doesn't want to perform Vulnicura anymore. Does she have "tourkarma" points in her account still? She's cancelled dates in 2008, 2011 and 2012.
