If you were hoping to buy Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain's old skis or telephone, sorry. A Craigslist posting that popped up earlier this week from someone claiming to be his old roommate has been revealed as a hoax.
The man responsible for the faux listing was none other than Sub Pop receptionist Derek Erdman, the man responsible for last year's Nirvana Virginia Tech prank.
In an interview with Revolt TV, Erdman revealed that he was the man behind the Craigslist ad and that he did it for a reason many of us can relate to... to blow off work.
"I was supposed to be working on something else that I haven't been able to get into, so I created a diversion," he said.
However, soon the listing was making waves and the rouse was discovered. "A few hours later I did an interview with CBC radio about it. Later that night I met a TV news crew (with cameras!) at the aforementioned Safeway for an interview, but they called my bluff and asked for ID," he explained. I told them that I was a one time bass player for 90s band Gruntruck. They didn't buy it, and they were visibly not happy about me wasting their time, I was wearing a flannel shirt though."
So, the jig is up. The listing claimed that Erdman was Cobain's former roommate getting rid of some of his old items, including a Swatch phone, old pair of "skiis" and an old video game. None of these items even exist, let alone were they Cobain's. Instead, the things listed in the ad were just pictures found on the Internet.
