Upon the theatrical re-release of the Kurt Cobain documentary Montage of Heck, the film's director Brett Morgen revealed that a previously unheard Cobain track would be slipped into the re-released version. He decided not to disclose which scene the song would appear in to prevent bootlegging but witty fans were able to spot the newest addition.
Montage of Heck, which saw significant amounts of help from Frances Bean Cobain and Courtney Love, originally saw a limited release and quick run in cinemas in May while the latest cut hit the big screen on Aug. 7. The track crafted by the Nirvana frontman has now been uploaded online, proving that the ending credits offer the unheard song. As Stereogum notes, the Cobain demo remains nameless but it believed to have been recorded in 1991.
Morgen recently established that a Montage of Heck soundtrack will be available for purchase on Nov. 6. The untitled LP is being referred to as a Cobain "solo album" and will boast unheard music from the late Nirvana front man as well as a sketch comedy routine.
The soundtrack and DVD release of the biopic will drop on the same day. The release will incpororate tracks heard in the film as well as yet-to-be-heard material. Morgen refers to the music as spanning "from thrash to ragtime and everything in between."
Reflecting on the soundtrack as a whole, Morgen said: "You really get a sense of how happy he was simply by creating himself. His lyrics are really playful, and, at times, you can feel his smile and warmth coming through," NME reports.
Although the Mevlins' front man Buzz Osborne voiced negative comments about Montage of Heck, the film has seen general wide-spread acclaim. Another Cobain documentary has been crafted, titled Soaked in Bleach-- this time focusing on his "mysterious" death and possible conspiracy theories surrounding it.
