The highly anticipated Jimi Hendrix biopic All Is By My Side debuts in the U.S. next week at South by Southwest, and today a clip from the filmed as surfaced online via Rolling Stone. The video shows Hendrix (Andre 3000) with his friend Linda Keith (Imogen Poots) in a New York restaurant chatting with future manager Chas Chandler (Andrew Buckley), who wants to get Hendrix to London. At the time, UK guitarists were playing blues-inspired music, but Hendrix was afraid of getting caught up in labels.
"I don't want to get caught up in those kind of labels, though," replies Hendrix in the clip. "I don't want it to be, 'Well OK, he's playing the blues,' or 'He's playing R&B or soul or whatever'."
In an interview with Rolling Stone, the Outkast MC said he spend hours watching footage of Hendrix to learn his mannerisms and way of speaking.
The film will premiere on March 12 at Austin's Paramount Theatre. It was written and directed by John Ridley who, according to RS, decided to make the film after discovering the rare track "Sending My Love to Linda," and wanting to learn about the woman behind it. Unfortunately none of Hendrix's compositions will be featured in the film due to reluctance of Hendrix's estate. However, it will feature songs from Muddy Waters, the Beatles, the Troggs and other related artists.
Check out the clip for yourself here, and let us know what you think of Andre 3000's portrayal of the guitar hero.
