In the public eye, especially in Hollywood, appearance is everything. The lives of celebrities are carefully watched under a microscope and viewed by millions, one wrong move (real or imagined) could lead to the demise of their career and image. Reality star Kim Kardashian and her music guru husband Kanye West are expecting baby number two, but the road to motherhood hasn't been an easy one for her. On top of the emotional toll of pregnancy in the public eye, Kardashian may have to face that her second pregnancy may destroy her uterus.
Dealing with backlash from her pregnancy weight, clothing choices for both her and daughter North West, and facing problematic medical issues, are just a few of the many issues she's concerned with. The 34-year-old actress recently opened up to C Magazine about how pregnancy has affected her both mentally and physically.
"Before I was always smiling, and so into being out and about," admitted Kardashian about her confidence before getting pregnant for the first time. "After I had the baby, I was like, these are the same people that made fun of me, and posted the stories that were so awful, calling me fat for something I couldn't control. I don't want to smile for them. I don't want to be out. Even if I was more confident, I just didn't feel like being that girl who was going to be smiling for every photo. It changed my mood; it changed who I was; it changed my personality a lot."
West, who will be honored with the Video Vanguard Award at the 2015 Video Music Awards, might be to scowling in pictures, but the Keeping Up with the Kardashians star isn't. She recalls preeclampsia caused her to bloat, resulting in body shaming, which she called "the worst." Kardashian delivered her daughter North West at 180 pounds, but the public ridiculed her saying West would leave her because she was 210 pounds. It made her feel very insecure and upset.
Trouble also surrounded Kardashian while trying to conceive, documenting some of her struggle and aggravation on her hit reality series. The California native developed a serious pregnancy condition known as Placenta Accreta, which is a potentially life-threatening obstetric condition when parts or all of the placenta grow abnormally into the uterine wall. The second oldest Kardashian sister has undergone a couple of surgeries to help cure the diagnosis, but the surgeries left a hole in her uterus. While creating a larger family has crossed her mind, Kardashian believes the hold in her uterus might threaten the possibility of her having any more children.
"Well, they think I'll have placenta accreta again, so if the placenta grows a little bit deeper than it did last time, then they are prepared to have my uterus removed, which is a little scary for me. I think we're just gonna go day by day, see how overwhelming it is, and see how the delivery goes."
The married couple are looking forward to the future, but have also realized it's best to take things day-by-day as they await the arrival of their son. Kardashian has a few surprises up her sleeve in the fall, including the upcoming launch of her website KimKardashianWest.com in September. The site will feature exclusive content like makeup tutorials, fun blog posts about fashion and beauty tips, fashion editorials, and more. Kardashian hopes the site will act as a better outlet for her and fans to connect.
