Savannah, Georgia's Baroness recently shared "Chlorine & Wine," a track off their forthcoming album, Purple. Slotted for a December 18th release date via Abraxan Hymns, the sludge metal outfit's follow up to 2012's Yellow & Green will, for many fans, prove to be well worth the wait. Purple is the first release on Baroness' new label and first LP recorded since the band's bus accident during their tour in support of Yellow & Green which resulted in the injury of nine people.
In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, front man John Baizley discussed the band's forthcoming project. "It was important for us to write our new songs with the type of enthusiasm and expressiveness that could act as a counterpoint to the album's dark themes, Baizley explained. "The music came out in an intense, heavy and sonically captivating in a new way." Baizley and his band mates' latest efforts are destined to become a favorite amongst those with a penchant for metal and pristine instrumentation.
It has yet to be revealed if Baroness' fourth full length will be accompanied with a tour. Even still, "Chlorine & Wine" gives listeners a sample of what the band's forthcoming onstage performance might sound like: melodic, lush and visceral. Undoubtedly monumental for the four piece, December's imminent release is one shaped by evolution and collaboration. "Purple is the most fully realized representation of our intention as a band," Baizley shared in a recent statement cited by Pitchfork.
From the sounds of "Chlorine & Wine," Baroness Abraxan Hymns debut is well worth the anticipation.
