Justin Timberlake, Jonathan Demme To Craft 'Space Age' Concert Film

Oscar-Winning director Jonathan Demme, known for his work on Silence of the Lambs and the 1982 Talking Heads concert film Stop Making Sense, will team up with singer/songwriter and new father, Justin Timberlake. Together, the two will craft a concert film that details the final Las Vegas stop on the singer's 143 date 20/20 Experience world tour. Demme will start editing the still-unnamed, independent concert film in the fall, Entertainment Weekly notes. "It's very emotional, very exciting. It's a space age music film," Demme told EW of the gig.

The director also compared the 34-year-old artist to a "funky" Fred Astaire and said, "There's tremendous dancing in this piece. He's got an extraordinary band called the Tennessee Kids. Huge horn section, two lead guitars, two drummers, eight dancers, four exquisite background singers. And we caught them on their last performance."

Further establishing himself in the music world, Demme has previously teamed with Neil Young for a music film trilogy that included 2006's Heart of Gold, 2009's Trunk Show and 2012's Journeys. The director also had a hand in music videos for Bruce Springsteen's "Murder Incorporated," New Order's "The Perfect Kiss" and most recently, he's directed Ricki and the Flash, which called for Young teaching Meryl Streep how to play guitar.

FutureSex/LoveShow: Live from Madison Square Garden, Timberlake's last concert film unveiled on HBO, was released on DVD/Blue-ray in November of 2007, Rolling Stone reports. Demme gives credit to the "Mirrors" singer for his old-school showmanship consisting of tailor made tuxedos, sharp shoes, slicked back hair and a big band ensemble. The film has yet to close in on a distribution deal, but the director told EW he would seek a deal upon completion of The 20/20 Experience World Tour concert film.

Timberlake will perform at the 2015 MTV Video Music Awards tonight alongside A$AP Rocky, Demi Lovato, Justin Bieber, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, Pharrell Williams, The Weeknd, Tori Kelly and Twenty One Pilots.
