Miley Cyrus used her closing performance at the 2015 MTV VMAs to announce the surprise release of her new album Miley Cyrus And Her Dead Petz.
Wayne Coyne of The Flaming Lips joined her on stage for the announcement that you can download the album for free at www.mileycyrusandherdeadpetz.com or listen to it on her official website via Soundcloud.
The announcement came after a night of hosting the event in which she got in a beef with Nicki Minaj and possibly exposed herself.
Her closing performance was a massive event as she debuted the lead track off her surprise album "Dooo It!" with tons of dancers dressed to the brim in bright angular clothing, many in gorgeous drag.
With a massive 23 song tracklist on the new album and cover art of her face painted in/ eating glitter, she's obviously taken a lot of influence from her work with Coyne and the Flaming Lips. The same anthemic, psychedelic rock devices are used in some of the albums opening tracks. The comparison is immediately obvious when the acoustic guitar comes in on the second track "Karen Don't Be Sad."
The former Disney star has been moving in this direction for sometime now as she's collaborated with The Flaming Lips for the Beatles cover album With A Little Help From My Fwends. Now, she's able to use her star status and this moment on a national televised stage to promote her art.
Listen to the album on her website or go download it for free here. You can also check out her VMA performance below.
