May is going to be an action packed month for New York City. The Red Bull Music Academy Festival will be in town.
The festival will feature performances, art installations and conversations concerning music. The series will also feature appearances from Hudson Mohawke, Max Glazer and D'Angelo.
The portion featuring D'Angelo has already sold out.
Red Bull Music Academy sent out this tweet yesterday (March 7):
"Sorry everyone but the public lecture with D'Angelo at @brooklynmuseum is already sold out. #RBMANYC"
The festival kicks off on May 1 with an event titled "Bounce Ballroom."
A statement on the festival's website describes the event as:
"Four dance styles, four dance crews, four DJs: Bruk Up with Bobby Konders, Voguing/Ballroom with Mike Q, Housing/Waacking with Todd Jerry, Jersey Club with DJ Sliink. In the tradition of our 2013 United States of Bass event, Red Bull pays tribute to hyper-local traditions that have made a global impact. With these revered jocks providing the soundtrack and their dance crews teaching you all the moves, expect a history lesson that your booty will never forget."
Following that, the festival will host an event titled "Atomic Bomb! The Music of William Onyeabor" on May 2 and 3.
The Red Bull Music Academy describes the event as "a concert in which high-profile fans from different backgrounds will form a band that plays the music of Onyeabor, highlighting the truly ahead-of-its-time qualities.
