Miley Cyrus Talks Wayne Coyne Friendship, New Album 'Dead Petz'

Of all of the jaw-dropping surprises the 2015 MTV Video Music Awards brought to viewers world-wide, twerk-happy host Miley Cyrus dropped the biggest bomb when she closed the ceremony by ditching her hosting duties, performing her latest single "Dooo It!" in the company of magnificently dressed drag queens and announcing the unexpected arrival of her latest album Miley Cyrus & Her Dead Petz. Shocking her RCA label, the 22-year-old announced her album could be downloaded for free.

In an interview with The New York Times, the outrageous VMA host detailed her unforeseen album, which took $50,000 to craft, as well as her creative friendship with the Flaming Lips front man Wayne Coyne. (They even have matching tattoos.)

In an interview with Rolling Stone, Cyrus admitted that "[Coyne is] everything in the world - you can't even define us. I am 100 percent in love with Wayne, and Wayne is in love with me, but it's nothing sexual in any way. That would be the grossest."

The duo first experienced imaginative collaboration when the "Wrecking Ball" singer lent vocals to the Flaming Lips Sgt. Pepper's tribute albm titled With a Little Help From My Fwends. Trailing the original experience, things only got "trippier" from there. While Cyrus embarked on her April 2014 Bangerz Tour her beloved dog Floyd was killed by coyotes, sending the singer into a downward spiral of emotions. After spending time in the hospital due to an allergic reaction to medication, Coyne visited Cyrus, further solidifying their friendship.

Upon returning home from touring, the singer met with a Chinese healer who "sent me into a state where my dog was lifted out of my lungs and placed on my shoulder," at which point she caressed Floyd for three hours before telling his spirit to "let go and put his energy out."

"I really think, in a way, his energy went into Wayne's energy. What he was to me, Wayne has become," Cyrus said.

As far as Dead Petz, the "We Can't Stop" singer constructed the album without the help of RCA records, giving her utter artistic freedom over the wild, not-so-radio-friendly venture. "They had never heard the record until it was done," she said, further explaining that Dead Petz doesn't count towards her current album contract.

"Miley Cyrus continues to be a groundbreaking artist. She has a strong point of view regarding her art and expressed her desire to share this body of work with her fans directly. RCA Records is pleased to support Miley's unique musical vision," the label said in a statement.
