In between a hilarious Girls parody, cameos from Fred Armisen and Jon Hamm and plenty of feminist-inspired sketches on last night's (March 8) episode of Saturday Night Live featuring host Lena Dunham, indie rockers The National took the stage.
Though The National were seemingly an odd choice to be promoted on SNL, with a 10-month old album and no North American tour currently in the works, the veteran Cincinnati, Ohio, rockers slayed the NBC late night stage for its first time on the show.
As logic would follow, The National played two cuts from its most recent album, 2013's Trouble Will Find Me. Decked out in all black (with some white T-shirts underneath suit jackets), the five band members rocked out to "Graceless." One of the more upbeat tracks from Trouble Will Find Me, the song was fittingly peppy for SNL, but of course, the band was bound to slow things down eventually.
For its second performance of the night, The National went with its latest single (and Valentine's Day track!) "I Need My Girl." Personally, this was one of my top 10 songs of last year, and The National gave it the pretty live rendition for Saturday Night Live. Despite its crawling tempo, the track managed to be totally captivating.
