The Miami nightlife scene is getting a makeover. 11 year veteran of the Miami nightlife jungle Mansion is reportedly shuttering its doors after a final party during Labor Day Weekend on Friday with Nicky Romero.
According to Miami.com, the club will reopen under a potential new name Icon though a timeline is unknown at the time.
The writing has been on the wall for some time for Mansion. Its former managing group The Opium Group, run by the infamous Milon brothers, known for stunts like putting their faces on toilet paper in women's bathrooms, bailed on the clubbing brand six months ago. It has been replaced by Icon Management, which is where the reported new club name comes from.
At its peak Opium Group ran and operated clubs all over the city including Mansion, SET, Cameo, Opium Cavern, Prove and Mokai.
This empire has been dissolving during 2015. Icon Management sold Cameo five months after the club had to settle a $5 million lawsuit with a clubber who was assaulted on New Year's Eve by security outside of the club.
Despite its struggles and impending demise, Mansion has seen some good years. The bottle service club has hosted some of the biggest DJs in the world like Afrojack, David Guetta, Justice and Laidback Luke. It even had Britney Spears perform after she was hospitalized in 2007 during her infamous meltdown.
There has been some issues with artists. DJ Shadow and Dennis Ferrer were kicked off of the decks for not playing mainstream enough to the bottle service audience. Deadmau5 ranted about the same crowd which according to the producer spent the entire time on their phones not paying any attention to the music. Mansion offered to throw a free show with Mau5 at a venue without any tables at a later date.
