Eminem has a real way with the British ladies. Fifteen years ago, his single "Stan" featuring Dido successfully catapulted the career of the UK singer-songwriter as an independent artist in her own right. Now, the Marshall Mathers LP single has done it again with another British woman, the determined Liz Kendall who is one of the handful of politicians set on a top job at Britain's Labour Party.
The Telegraph UK reported that a letter Kendall wrote to voters has been criticized as a "begging letter" and detractors have reworked it to the tune of Slim Shady's "Stan." And, in a strange twist the world-famous rapper is actually one of her favorite artists.
In her original, Kendall muses on her potential position with a shot of her handwriting "Dear Supporter, you probably think that I'm writing to ask for your vote in the upcoming election for party leader, and I am."
She then types it out on a computer and walks around the office, her brow furrowed with the weight of Britain's issues of poverty in the working class. Kendall means well, but in one word - boring.
Her politically correct and in proper British slang "dull" video that she released back in August could never do as much to boost her career in politics as a spoof that blends Eminem's "Stan" with her promotional video. With the new remix, Kendall gets some street cred added to her political credentials.
The spoof begins with those legendary shots of Dido in her bathroom and sulking around the house in a bathrobe singing that infamous hook as Eminem reads her letters on his tour bus. It then transitions into Liz Kendall's original with "Stan" in the background, the track perfectly mirroring her writing and typing as his slow-form rap lines linger on.
The unlikely pairing may well give both her lackluster video and failing campaign a much needed boost.
