With Mac & Cheese: The Album a couple of months away, French Montana stopped by HOT 97 to talk about new music as well as recent hot topics in the hip-hop world that he, by association, has been involved in. Over the course of the interview, Montana spoke on the tragic death of fellow Coke Boy Chinx Drugz, the "Vodka War" between 50 Cent's EFFEN and Puff Daddy's Ciroc, the ghostwriting beef between Drake and Meek Mill and, lastly, Caitlyn Jenner.
First, Montana spoke on the criticism he received for not immediately releasing a social media statement following Drugz's death in May. The Coke Boys founder explained that the loss was such a blow that the last thing on his mind was going on Twitter or Instagram. He also relayed the instrumental role he played in releasing and promoting -- never for profit -- Drugz's music after his death as well as throughout his entire career.
Things took a lighter turn as he was asked about the mostly benign vodka war in which he, as a member of Puffy Daddy's "Ciroc Boys," has been implicated. When asked to address 50 Cent's vodka vs. that of Puff Daddy, Montana came back with a rhetorical question of his own: "Did you ever see someone in the club with an EFFEN vodka bottle stuntin?" He then compared EFFEN to the fruity malt liquor beverage Four Loko.
On the subject of the sensationalized beef between Drake and Meek Mill, both of whom he considers friends, Montana awarded the win to Drake, whom he called "the best of our generation." He doesn't think that ghostwriting should be a controversial issue these days and shared his opinion that it's appropriate for someone to help pen your rhymes if said person understands your lifestyle. He went on to clarify that records such as 2Pac Shakur's "Dear Mama" could not have been ghostwritten, though he thinks it's natural for there to be a collaborative writing process when it comes to more club-oriented, crossover hits.
He finished by speaking on Caitlyn Jenner whom, despite his lengthy relationship with Khloe Kardashian, he has never met. Nevertheless, he praised Jenner's courage and said that he feels sorry for people who are unable to become who they really are.
French Montana's Mac & Cheese: The Album is set to drop October 30 and will include features from Kanye West, the incarcerated Max B, Rick Ross, Puff Daddy, Miguel and more.
