Lord Jamar is disgusted with what he sees on a daily basis from the hip-hop world. The emcee and member of the Brand Nubians is better known for headstrong condemnations of trends in hip-hop, versus for his actual music. Jamar typically lashes out at any signs of new thought in rap music, making him somewhat the Newt Gingrich of the genre...the grand poobah (pun intended) of conservative rap culture. If you're an up-and-coming rapper, Music Times has compiled a short list of things to avoid lest you piss off Jamar.
01) DON'T BE WHITE
Most of the stories generated by Jamar involve his distaste for white rappers. He referred to whites as "guests in hip-hop." Rapper Yelawolf took issue with this, and Jamar accused the Alabama native of having sex with his own sister. He also put down Macklemore as a fake following the Grammys, although the "Thrift Shop" rapper admitted his own feelings of guilt for winning. Jamar makes an exception for Eminem, saying that the Detroit emcee did due diligence by "worshipping black emcees." Macklemore and Yelawolf apparently did not. And it's totally not because Eminem could crush Jamar's career if he felt like it.
02) DON'T BE GAY
Lord Jamar took offense to claims that he was racist, and pointed out during an interview that he holds white and black rappers to basically the same standards: "I don't want black people doing that, either. So, it's not just confined just to white people. I don't want black people coming in promoting gay s---." He quickly clarified he wasn't homophobic, but then he released a diss track aimed at Kanye West, where he referred to Kanye's famous kilt as "queer s---." Maybe another reason why he loves Eminem's classic tracks?
03) DON'T DRESS FUNNY
We've already noted that West is the main offender when it comes to dressing funny. Jamar also called out West, aside from the kilt, for introducing skinny jeans to hip-hop. He claims that such things promote the feminizing of men. Apparently he's never been in a mosh pit at an Every Time I Die concert or similar hardcore show. We've just never been punched in the face at a hip-hop show, just saying. Jamar's fashion-sense-as-proof-of-masculinity goes back to when he dissed Dr. Dre's first group, World Class Wreckin' Cru.
04) DON'T WRITE ARTICLES THAT MOCK LORD JAMAR
We'll keep you up-to-date on this one.
