The Zombies are back with their first album in four years, Still Got That Hunger. Then, with the release of the first single and lead tack "Moving On," we get our first look into what the '60s rock band sounds like in 2015.
"Moving On" is a slick old-school rock 'n' roll song that uses some bluesy riffs on guitar and bass to support a jazz piano part. The song has a lot of the same Zombies song structure we've become accustomed to on former hits such as "Time of the Season" and "She's Not There." There are a lot of abrupt stylistic changes and funky piano parts that always resolve beautifully for a well-structured song. The one thing that's not really there anymore is the squeaky high falsetto. Don't worry; the harmonies are present just dropped down an octave or five.
Chris Potter, who has worked with The Rolling Stones and The Verve in the past, produced Still Got That Hunger, according to Consequence of Sound.
The Zombies have had a good year, starting with a buzzed about SXSW performance in Austin, TX this spring and now the announcement of a new tour.
Starting on September 30, the reunited group goes on tour to play the band's legacy setting album Odyssey and Oracle, which has only been performed twice with the original five band members. The group broke up in 1967 before the release of the seminal album that would end up making their careers. Guitarist Paul Atkinson died in 1997 and the remaining four members went on to play from the album another seven times. Now, fans of the album can catch one of the 18 stops the band is making through October to hear the iconic album and possibly some new tunes.
