ScHoolboy Q wishes he never would have signed to a major label

ScHoolboy Q just released his debut album, Oxymoron, via Interscope (where his fellow TDE co-hort Kendrick Lamar signed) but now wishes he would've stayed indie. In an interview with a Radio.com station, the Cali rapper said he would have liked to have put out the record on a smaller scale.

"I already did wrong by signing a rap contract," he said. "I'm not talking about TDE, but how we ventured off with the majors. I wish we would have still stayed indie, I don't care about being on like 1,000 radios. I love Interscope, but I wish I could have just stayed with TDE."

He also said that fans shouldn't expect a TDE mixtape anytime soon. He said that he, Lamar, Ab-Soul, Jay Rock, Isaiah Rashad "don't put mixtapes out. Everything we drop is an album -- we don't play that mixtape game. We put all our time and effort into one project, to make it great instead of doing songs for a tape."

Later, he discussed his signature accessory: the bucket hat. He says he has interest in starting his own line, independently.

"Everybody wants me to do a line," he said. "There's so many bucket hat companies offering me so much money, but I'd rather do it myself. If you wanted to give me that much money, I know I could make that much money on my own."

Oxymoron debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart, boasting first-week sales of 139,000 copies in the U.S. It has sold more than his first two independent releases combined. Watch his interview with Hot 93.7 here, and let us know what you think in the comments section below!
