It's safe to say: Justin Bieber is back. After a three year pause between studio albums and plenty of controversies, the 21-year-old pop icon is having his best career week with his first ever No. 1 Hot 100 single, "What Do You Mean?" Meanwhile, The Weeknd is also experiencing a massive week with his songs "Can't Feel My Face" and "The Hills" both sitting in the top three.
Bieber's "What Do You Mean?" debuted at No. 1 this week, according to Billboard. Bieber's new career high comes thanks to a week of heavy promotion for the lead single off his untitled new album. "What Do You Mean?" was released on Friday, Aug. 28, and was immediately followed by a high profile performance at this year's MTV VMAs, the release of its music video and a performance on The Tonight Show.
Thanks to the major push, "What Do You Mean?" was the most sold song of the week, with 337,000 downloads. Bieber also came in at No. 2 on the Streaming Songs chart.
Bieber's big debut at No. 1 knocks The Weeknd's "Can't Feel My Face" down to the No. 2 spot. Despite his own big performance at the VMAs and an increase in sales (with a No. 2 position), the power of Bieber overcame The Weeknd's first No. 1 hit. But, Abel Tesfaye still has plenty to celebrate. He holds two songs in the top three as his other Beauty Behind the Madness single "The Hills" rises one spot to No. 3.
The arrival of Bieber and mild rise of The Weeknd this week knocks the other singles in the top 10 down one spot from last week. Silento's viral hit "Watch Me" fell to No. 4. He is immediately followed by Song of the Summer candidate OMI, whose six week chart topped "Cheerleader" continues its seasonal descent by stumbling three spots to No. 5.
Major Lazer's "Lean On," Selena Gomez's "Good for You," Fetty Wap's "679" and R. City's "Locked Away" featuring Adam Levine all slipped down one spot this week to hold Nos. 6-9, respectively.
And as Justin Bieber holds the top spot in the top 10, he also holds the bottom spot with Jack U's "Where Are U Now."
