Lil Boosie talks being a 'ratchet' pioneer and explains why he's done with drugs for good

Fresh off his nearly five-year stint in prison, Lil Boosie recently sat down with Vibe magazine and he opened up about pioneering the "ratchet" sound and explained why he's done with drugs.

While in prison, the self-proclaimed "Bad Azz" apparently had a change of heart.

During a recent interview, the Baton Rouge rapper said that he's now doing everything in his power to stay sober and out of trouble. He even mentioned that he has a more open attitude towards collaborating with artists outside of his Trill Entertainment camp.

"Ratchet" rap has taken over mainstream radio but true fans of the culture know that the sound was spearheaded by Boosie.

"I appreciate them for giving me the credit," Boosie said of YG and DJ Mustard. "I'm happy for their success and YG is under Jeezy so he's family. Oakland, too, shout out to the Bay. The Bay wrote me so many letters when I was in jail. I ain't know I had that much love in the Bay."

As a part of his court orders, Boosie must stay sober and he's determined to do just that.

"All I think about is death row. You think I'm fixing to smoke something and go back to where I was? And put my people through all this behind a high? Nah, ain't nothing that serious. It ain't worth it... [I ain't] drinking no codeine and deteriorating my body, and taking a chance to go back to prison. Ain't no high that good."
