Pop sensation Justin Bieber has announced that he has released an acoustic version (as promised to fans) for his No.1 single "What Do You Mean." The release has officially set the Spotify record of being streamed 21 million times in five days. He had initially offered the stripped-down version to his fans if they would set a world record for streaming on the hip music discovery site and the Beliebers certainly seem up to the challenge after hitting their goal in less than a week, beating out One Direction's standing Spotify record.
The video was filmed in classic black and white - so much soul! It begins with a shot of the pop-star singing into a microphone on a black leather couch, accompanied by a shaggy-haired acoustic guitarist. He also skateboards through Times Square in New York City and battles the paparazzi as he heads towards a black limo holding up a sign that expresses his adoration for the fans. There's even a swimming pool and the music video is all interspersed with photoshoots and snapshots of his life as a world-famous singer. A scene from the MTV Video Music Awards is even included - without the tears of course.
Billboard reported that "What Do You Mean" premiered at the top of the world-famous Billboard Hot 100 chart on the same day that it was released, not bad for a 21-year old! He is also the youngest male singer to ever do this. However, it's not the first time that Bieber has experimented with acoustic takes of his music and Entertainment Weekly reported that he released My Worlds Acoustic in 2010 and Believe Acoustic in 2013. After all, acoustic is how "the Biebs" started and seems to be how at least some of his millions of fans like him best.
