Okkervil River Reissues 'Black Sheep Boy' in Deluxe Edition with Unreleased Covers

Celebrating the 10-year anniversary of its album Black Sheep Boy, the Americana band Okkervil River is issuing a 3-LP deluxe reissue of the decade old album, which will include Black Sheep Boy Appendix and There Swims A Swan, a collection of covers recorded before the Black Sheep session.

The band has also announced a number of tour dates posted below reaching from the east to west coast in a short seven-stop run. You can listen to the unreleased cover of Tom House's "I'm in Love With Susan Smith," off There Swims A Swan below.

The collection, available through JAGJAGUAR, comes in a vinyl pack, which will run you $44.99, or a CD pack that will cost you a more modest $32.99. The collection also comes with new limited-edition screen-printed artwork as well as expanded liner-notes.

However, buying music is so '90s; let's talk about the new cover album and tour.

There Swims A Swan opens with a cover of Lead Belly's "Goodnight Irene" and features 10 other previously unreleased covers including the Tom House cover pre-released via Soundcloud. Other tracks to expect on the album include overs of "See See Rider" by The Animals, "Knoxville Girl" and "Satan is Real" by the Louvin Brothers, "Good Liquor Gonna Carry Me Down" by Big Bill Broonzy and more.

According to Setlist.fm, the band hasn't hit the road since summer of last year, most notably with a performance at Bonnaroo. For these upcoming seven shows, Okkervil River plans to play Black Sheep Boy and its appendix of eight extra songs that didn't make it onto the original album in their entirety, which should make for a special intimate performance.
