Recent reports stated that this year's MTV Video Music Awards host, Miley Cyrus, will take on next year's Glastonbury 2016 event as a headliner. However, festival organizer Michael Eavis has stepped forward to shut down any rumors that the twerk-happy performer will appear at the festival's events.
a recently reported that there were "initial plans, which are in very early stages" for Cyrus to tackle a performance at Worthy Farm in 2016, NME notes.
"Miley's been on the Eavis radar for a while," a source reportedly told the newspaper. "She's outrageous and there was interest in previous years, around the time of her 'Bangerz' tour last year and when her godmother Dolly Parton played the Pyramid [Stage]."
Eavis spoke with The Mirror, stating that although the "Dooo It!" singer is a "brilliant artist," he denied the speculations and explained that the festival has "nothing in the pipeline with her." He added that the main focus is to uncover a host of new artists to showcase at Glastonbury Festival 2016.
Although the "Wrecking Ball" singer most likely won't be spotted at next year's festival, Eavis doesn't rule out the possibility of including controversial acts and performances. "Kanye West was one of the best to take to the Glastonbury stage and silenced a lot of his critics," he added. "However controversial the artist I'm sure they'll take his stance and tell them: 'Shh.'"
Eavis continued to announce that the assembly of headliners has already been booked for the next two chapters of the world-renowned festival. On Tuesday night, BBC Radio 1 reporter Sinéad Garvan chatted with Eavis during the AIM awards, discussing the fact that four of six headliners have previously topped the bill and two acts are completely fresh.
Glastonbury Festival 2016 will take place from June 22-26 at Worthy Farm.
