The Mark Ronson-crafted single "Uptown Funk" has recently been named the fifth biggest-selling single in UK chart history, running against some of the most celebrated musicians in history. Released in November of 2014, the track featuring Bruno Mars has sold over two million copies worldwide, surpassing the total sales of Paul McCartney & Wings' 1977 hit single, "Mull of Kintyre"--an accomplishment in itself.
Ronson isn't a stranger when it comes to success, seeing as he's worked with some of the biggest names in the music industry form Amy Winehouse to Tame Impala.
"Uptown Funk," however, is still trialing Pharrell Williams' "Happy", which is ranked as the UK's fourth biggest-selling single of all time. As of late, a change was made to "Uptown Funk's" credits, including the writers of The Gap Band's 1979 number one hit "Oops Up Side Your Head," NME notes. Members Charles Wilson, Ronnie Wilson and Robert Wilson along with record producer Lonnie Simmons and Rudolph Taylor have been credited on the song's listed writers.
The new additions join singer Bruno Mars, Ronson and producers Philip Lawrence and Jeff Bhasker along with Nicholas Williams and Devon Gallaspy, the latter two being credited for the use of James' "All Gold Everything" sample.
The credit change follows a plethora of high-profile legal issues concerning songwriting credits. Robin Thicke and Pharrell Williams were slated to pay up a lump sum of $7.4 million to the family of Marvin Gaye. The duo's 2013 hit, "Blurred Lines," was determined to have copied bits of the R&B mastermind's 1977 hit track, "Got To Give It Up."
According to TV Line, recent rumors have circulated concerning the "Locked Out Of Heaven" singer making his return to the Superbowl half time show for 2016.
