Charli XCX Claims Her New Album Was Inspired by Paris Hilton

In a surprising twist, Charli XCX claims that her new album, The Boom Clap, a follow-up to 2014's Sucker, was largely inspired by the original "famous for being famous" socialite, Paris Hilton. The British pop-star is notorious for being an unpredictable interviewee and it's been said that it's nearly impossible to tell if she's joking or not. Perhaps dealing with the media is a bit of a game for her.

In a recent interview with U.K. newspaper, The Mirror, Charli said that her new songs are "The most electronic pop sound I've ever done. I've been really inspired by Paris Hilton, small dogs and a glitter, luxe lifestyle. I've never met Paris before, but we were both at the amFar Gala during the Cannes Film Festival this year. I was performing and I saw her singing along to my song and freaked out. I'm such a fan and one of my favorite songs ever is 'Stars Are Blind' - it's pop genius."

Charli dropped these Paris comments at her Red Bull Studios Future Underground performance and also professed her love for edgy pop Queen, Rihanna, who recently celebrated ten years in the music industry. SPIN reported that Charli has been consulted in an urgent, down to the wire studio sessions for RiRi's long-awaited eight album as first single "Bitch Better Have My Money" didn't perform up to standards. It's not surprising considering that the 23-year-old powerhouse has written No.1 hits for both Iggy Azalea and Icona Pop, two of the biggest names in the industry right now.

"I'm a really big Rihanna fan," Charli said, "I think she's such an incredible artist. She's my favorite pop girl. She's the real deal. I've actually been to a couple of writing sessions for Rihanna's new record. It was really fun to put together a couple of tracks.

Aside from collaborating on these new Rihanna tunes, she also recently cancelled the last dates on her U.S. tour with Bleachers to focus on her follow-up album, a bold move even for her.
